The Delta Academy

The Delta Academy is a National initiative proudly launched by our 21st National President Marcia Fudge in an effort to address our need to prepare  young African American girls for the 21st century. 

 In far too many minority communities, schools simply fail to provide the quality education needed to sustain the hopes, dreams and aspirations of African American females.

DELTA  ACADEMY: CATCHING THE DREAMS OF TOMORROW  -  PREPARING  YOUNG  WOMEN FOR  THE 21st CENTURY is the theme.  THE DREAM CATCHER is the symbol.  The Dream Catcher in Native American culture is believed to possess the power to capture bad dreams, entangle them in the web, thus allowing only the good dreams to pass through to the center of the dream hoop into the person's being.   The purposes of the Academy are: To save our girls from the perils of academic failure, low self-esteem, and crippled futures; To demonstrate the relevance to a girl's future of scholarship in the areas of math, science, technology and non-traditional careers; sisterhood as it relates to peers and Delta members; and service in the form of leadership and service learning; and To expand the thinking of our girls about possible careers and educational goals that include science, math and technology. It is a fact that women and girls of today will be called upon to assume roles and responsibilities never imagined by our mothers and grandmothers. Yet ready or not, the 21st Century will soon be upon us with new and unexpected demands.  The Academy is an exciting  and innovative way for Delta women of vision to turn their considerable resources and energies to developing new purpose, new skills and new leaders from the ranks of 11 to 14 year old young women.      The Arlington Alumnae chapter, with the giving of your time, talents and expertise, will have an extremely successful Academy.  We know these young people are worth it.

Consider signing-up to become a mentor, to help with lessons, service projects, refreshments, or the Dream Catcher event.
